Global Dignity Day !
WHAT IS GLOBAL DIGNITY DAY ?
On this day, Young Global Leaders and other role models join thousands of volunteers to do Dignity Days. They speak to youth in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Their aim is to instill a new, positive, inclusive and interconnected sense of value in young people that will guide them as they grow.
HOW WE CELEBRATE DIGNITY DAY ?
The organization is working towards dignity for people creating a global conversation about dignity, promoting dignity-based leadership discussing the issue of dignity with young people. An annual Dignity Day on October 20 was arranged for the first time in 2008. School classes are invited to discuss Dignity - what it means to them and their relationship with other people. Per 2011 schools in more than 40 countries had participated in the project.[1]
The Dignity project has formulated five dignity principles:
Every human being has a right to lead a dignified life.
A dignified life means an opportunity to fulfil one’s potential, which is based on having a humane level of health care, education, income and security.
Dignity means having the freedom to make decisions on one’s life and to be met with respect for this right.
Dignity should be the basic guiding principle for all actions.
Ultimately, our own dignity is interdependent with the dignity of others.
HOW DO WE CELEBRATE DIGNITY DAY IN BECONHOUSE ?
October 20, 2011: The Global Dignity Day was celebrated by teachers and students of Beaconhouse schools across Pakistan with enthusiasm. The day recognises the Universal Right of every individual to lead a dignified life.In the light of this theme, we celebrate the global dignity day with an initiative to commend and encourage good practices of dignified and courageous individuals of our society.Â
The purpose of celebrating this day was to highlight the fact that all people poor or rich and all occupations/jobs are bound to equal amounts of respect and have the same importance.
Beaconhouse Schools organised special assemblies for this purpose, during which students shared their personal experiences regarding school staff and other people who are not rich but maintain lives worth respecting.
Students also presented Role Plays and wrote poems highlighting the importance and principles of dignity. Some schools also invited professionals belonging to NGOs who spoke about the importance of Dignity Day
